Staff Spotlight: Sarah Hoiland

Teamwork. Sometimes, it’s just one of those buzzwords that managers at large organizations employ to make it sound like they really care about their staff. They will even try to put the idea into action by hosting “team-building exercises” or using slogans and putting up posters.

When companies struggle just to get colleagues to work together harmoniously, there’s something missing – something that is essential to real teamwork: people with the right attitude.

If there is one thing Sarah Hoiland embodies, it’s teamwork. And not only teamwork among her own colleagues at the Legacy Group, but really teaming up with her clients, seeing their mission as her own mission. And it is this perspective that has motivated Sarah through nine successful years as a real estate agent at the Legacy Group.

While real estate is a business, it is also more than a business. As Sarah is fond of pointing out, buying or selling a home is not a run-of-the-mill event in the life of most people. It is sometimes the biggest financial and life decision they will make. And that means that what she does really matters.

In real estate, serving clients well requires that you enter into their lives for just a while, helping them work through what is usually a pretty important stage in their lives. And entering into this special and very personal world means that Sarah gets to experience firsthand the joys of her clients in buying their first home, or finding their dream home.

“I love working with all clients and whatever life changes they are experiencing. However, I must say, there aren’t too many things more rewarding than giving a first-time homebuyer the keys to their very first home. It warms my heart to the fullest.”

She also experiences the poignant wistfulness of clients who may be selling a home they have lived in for 30 or 40 years, a home they raised their children in, and that holds many cherished memories. So, while she still has to handle all of the practical aspects of what her job requires, Sarah sometimes has to do a lot of hand-holding and just plain listening. Fortunately, it’s these aspects of the job that Sarah finds most rewarding.

Whatever you may imagine, trying to make other people’s major life transitions pleasant, hopeful, and smooth is not always easy. House purchases and sales hit snags and obstacles that can make the job difficult, and that is when Sarah relies the most on her Legacy Group team members.

Hearing stories about how other real estate firms work has made Sarah grateful to work at the Legacy Group. Legacy team members train together on a regular basis, and help each other out without hesitation and with a true generosity of spirit when it comes to covering an open house due to an emergency, showing a home to another agent’s client, or providing help on working out a contract. Sarah has come to rely on the expertise and warm-heartedness of all of her colleagues, which is why working with this team is, to her, the best thing about working at Legacy. “In almost a decade with the team, these people have become my second family.” Now that’s how teamwork should feel.

When not helping out clients or collaborating with colleagues, Sarah heads home to be with family whenever she can. And if she is not with family, you will find her outdoors: hiking, swimming, boating, and camping.

If you are interested in buying or selling a home in eastern Washington, northern Idaho, or western Montana regions, the Legacy Group should be at the top of your contact list.
