Hayden is a city in Kootenai County, just north of Coeur d’Alene. It lies at the southwestern end of Hayden Lake at about 2,290 feet, and the city’s origins are tied to the lake. The Coeur d’Alene people gathered huckleberries, fish and game around Hayden Lake and nearby Lake Coeur d’Alene.

Hayden is on U.S. Route 95 at its junction with State Highway 41, about four miles north of Interstate 90. The Coeur d’Alene Airport is just northwest of the city.

Empire Airlines and Rocky Mountain Construction, a roller coaster design firm, are headquartered in Hayden.
