Coeur d’Alene is the county seat of Kootenai County and the largest city in North Idaho. It sits on the north shore of 25-mile Lake Coeur d’Alene, west of the Coeur d’Alene Mountains and about 30 miles east of Spokane on Interstate 90. The city is named for the Coeur d’Alene people.

The economy was built on mining and logging before tourism grew after the 1940s. Downtown includes the Coeur d’Alene Resort with its 3,300-foot floating boardwalk, the 165-acre Tubbs Hill natural area, City Park and Beach, and McEuen Park. The resort’s golf course has a movable floating green on its 14th hole.

The Museum of North Idaho covers regional history, the city hosts an Ironman Triathlon, and Silverwood Theme Park is about 20 miles north. The Coeur d’Alene Airport serves the area.
